An appealing, stone hideaway in the village of Catterick, this charming cottage makes a great base for exploring North Yorkshire. Situated 5.5 miles from Richmond and the fringes of the Yorkshire Dales, the retreat is also 19 miles from edge of the North York Moors National Park. Head into historic Richmond to explore its pretty streets and cobbled marketplace. Potter in independent shops, dine out and visit the magnificent Norman castle. From here, stroll out along the River Swale for just over 1 mile to the remains of Easby Abbey. Pause at the old railway station afterwards for afternoon tea in the cafe. Plan a morning out to the historic Jacobean house of Kiplin Hall, 6 miles away, where you can also wander around the serene lake, woodland and parkland. Visit the beautiful Aysgarth Falls, 18.5 miles away, where filming for Hollywood movie Robin Hood Prince of Thieves took place.
Return from your Yorkshire excursions to make yourselves at home in this welcoming retreat. Step inside via the hallway, where you can hang your jackets and slip off your shoes. From here you can access the lovely family bathroom, or head on through into the kitchen to unpack any provisions you have sourced while out. Continue into the beamed lounge to relax on the soft seating as you catch up on your favourite programme on TV or chat about the exciting adventures of the day. An archway between exposed red-brick pillars leads through to the charming dining area where you can congregate at the table for your holiday meals and look out over the garden. As the day draws to a close, open the door to the secret staircase and make your way up to the first floor of the cottage, where there is a king-size bedroom plus a room that is perfect for families. This room includes both a king-size bed and a single. There is also a handy family shower room at this level.
While away summer afternoons in the pretty garden. Dine on the patio on fine evenings and play games with the children or your pets on the lawn. There is parking for one car at the cottage.
