A welcoming two-bedroom cottage flooded with natural light and featuring exposed stonework, structural timbers and slate flooring on the fringes of the Exmoor National Park. The cottage is eight miles from Ilfracombe, home to a venerable mixture of Victorian and Regency architecture, a pretty harbour and a host of independent shops, restaurants, cafes and pubs. Hele Corn Mill & Tea Rooms, a fascinating structure located just 300m from Hele Bay Beach, is also eight miles away. Ghosthunters should pay a visit to Chambercombe Manor, one of Britain’s most haunted houses, seven miles away. A day will be well spent exploring Exmoor National Park, home to Europe’s first International Dark Sky Reserve, England’s tallest tree and its highest cliffs, myriad bird, flora and fauna species and a sizable population of red deer and wild native ponies. These natural wonders are just seven miles from the cottage.
In the spacious living area, a large L-shaped sofa and armchair are set around a wood burner under a vaulted ceiling, with access to the garden through a set of patio doors. This feeds into the kitchen/diner with seating meaning those preparing food need never feel apart from the conversation. Both of the cottage’s bedrooms are king-size, with one featuring patio doors and an en-suite with walk-in shower and WC. The second king-size room also contains a single bed. The main bathroom is home to a roll-top bath, a separate walk-in shower and WC.
Outside, al fresco dining options abound thanks to a patio area with garden furniture and a BBQ. A hot tub sits just below, level with a large lawn area. The garden is bordered by a wooden fence and shrubs, and there is access to the adjoining garden at House Martins cottage.
