The property is named after the Gray Nicolls factory in Robertsbridge, famed for making cricket bats since 1876. Nearby attractions include the wonderful market town of Battle, 5 miles away, named after the Battle of Hastings and rich with history. Visit Battle Abbey, the battlefield just behind it, and St Mary’s Parish Church to see the impressive tapestry depicting the town’s history. The National Trust property Scotney Castle lies 10 miles distant, and you could also head to the spa town of Royal Tunbridge Wells (17 miles) or Sissinghurst Castle Garden (13 miles).
Enter via the charming blue door into the sitting room with beautiful beams and an open fire set in a striking inglenook fireplace. Snuggle down on one of the two sumptuous sofas while you await dinner being served in the adjoining dining room where highlights include wooden floorboards and a country-style table with wooden chairs, an elegant sideboard, and two display cabinets. Large French doors open out to the pretty patio and garden beyond. The gorgeous country-style kitchen has a breakfast bar, terracotta tiled floor and underfloor heating. Next door you’ll find the utility room which houses the washing machine and tumble dryer. There is a second sitting room across the hallway from the first, furnished with comfortable sofas and armchairs, making it the perfect place to relax with a good book or board game (please bring your own DVDs and games).
