Set in the middle of popular walking country and not far from the coast, this handsome Victorian house is a perfect choice for families or groups of friends who wish to explore this beautiful part of the Snowdonia National Park. Located in the village of Bontddu (pronounced ‘bon-thee’), it is 5 miles from the seaside resort of Barmouth and its sandy beach, and 5 miles from Dolgellau, with a range of shops, restaurants, markets and pubs, and from where you can climb the legendary Cader Idris, the highest mountain in southern Snowdonia. For walkers and cyclists the 9-mile, easy-access Mawddach trail, which follows the vast and sandy Mawddach Estuary, can be joined at Penmaenpool, 2 miles away.
This former minister’s house is attached to the next-door chapel (which is occasionally used by the owners) and is set over three storeys. Its special features include stripped-pine floorboards, panelled doors and large sash windows. From the spacious hallway with lovely tiled flooring, the attractive lounge has a striking brick chimney with a wood burner and plenty of comfortable seating gathered around. The open-plan kitchen/diner has all the equipment you could need for cooking and is a lovely space for sociable meals. Leading off it is a useful utility area and a ground-floor shower room. On the first floor there are three bedrooms: a double, a child-friendly twin and a single, and a family bathroom, while on the second floor you will find another double room, a spacious and pretty room with a metal bed, sloping ceilings and exposed beams.
A small terrace runs alongside the house, with seating.
