The smaller Tate Hill Beach is slightly closer and from here you can make your way up to the famous 199 steps that climb up to the ruins of historic Whitby Abbey on the headland. Also venture into the North York Moors National Park, surrounding Whitby and that can be explored on foot or by bicycle.
