Escape to St Ives for a seaside holiday with an artistic twist – the busy harbour is at the heart of the town’s historic fishing community, but the light here inspired a whole school of painting and the local arts scene is buzzing. No visit would be complete without a visit to the iconic Tate St Ives, while there’s plenty to satisfy shoppers, foodies and history-lovers too. St Ives has four main beaches, which between them, offer miles of golden sand, azure waters and stunning views. To enjoy more iconic sights, drive 9.5 miles across the peninsula to Marazion, where the romantic St Michael’s Mount sits just offshore. Or, for a lesson in local history, follow the coast road to St Just, 15 miles away – the nearest town to Land’s End, it was once the centre of the tin mining industry, and the former engine houses at nearby Botallack cling dramatically to the cliffs along the rocky coastline.

Enjoying an enviable position above Porthminster Beach, this well-appointed ground-floor apartment is at the rear of a large Victorian house in fashionable Draycott Terrace. Head up the steps from the street, through the main house door and on to your open-plan kitchen/lounge/diner where colourful accessories complement a scene that’s both calm and comfortable. Snuggle up on the sofa, turn on the TV, watch a DVD or dock your iPod and listen to favourite tunes while you relax after a busy day of sightseeing. If you feel like cooking, all the essentials are here, and there’s a door to the courtyard area where you’ll find extra furniture for outdoor drinks and nibbles. The accommodation is all on one level so it’s not far to go for sleep – the double bedroom follows the styling of the rest of the apartment and is close to a modern shower room, while underfloor heating throughout will keep you warm whatever time of year you visit.

Steps lead down to the rear of the apartment where a shared paved courtyard area has bistro-style table and chairs. Alternatively, take a short stroll along Primrose Terrace to the golden sands of Porthminster Beach.

There is no parking but the train station, whilst not too far away, can be used for 7 days for 25. Good value, but if you drive away for a day, spaces are at a premium to get back in, late afternoon the day-trippers tend to leave. The property is high-up but only a short walk down to the beach, using a narrow, steep road. Cottage is clean and brigRead moreht, but only big enough for 2 adults and a small dog. Thoroughly enjoyed our week there. Hide

The apartment is compact but that was not an issue, it had everything needed for your stay, although only two forks but 4 of everything else, as a communal court yard this could be tidied up to make it more appealing to sit outside. We travel down to St Ives several times a year, this is the only property we have stayed in that did not provide a weRead morelcome pack, a pint of milk would have been a nice touch. The property is near a beach so location was good. A walk steep hill back up to the property but not a problem if you are able bodied. For us the damp was the main problem. Hide

It's very difficult to fault St Ives as a place, so I think it would be very hard to be negative. Value for money on this cottage is good. Cannot fault St Ives Holidays as I've used them many times. Will be looking for more space next time and a sea view, but the cottage as a whole is excellent. Thank you to the owners.

The property is lovely, very well looked after and furnished beautifully. The service has been amazing with constant updates and reminders with very clear instructions. The folder in the flat is full of useful information. TV had lots of channels to watch. Parking is very difficult, with limited spaces I'd recommend reversing down of you can, yoRead moreu can also book car parking close by through the council website. Dogs are only allowed on the beach between 6pm and 10am (fine of 80-1000). Beach is very close by, be prepared to walk up a steep incline (if you have disabled or pish chairs etc). Driving around St Ives is very busy, if you can I'd recommend using a taxi service(I used A1 taxis, downloaded their app) the train station and bus stops are also very close by. Hide
