This little cottage in the old town has all the delights of a period property – think beamed ceilings and original fireplaces – combined with the welcome creature comforts of a modern kitchen and bathroom. The property is attached to a house and is set up a flight of stairs off the cobbled streets of Whitby’s historic centre. You’re close to shops, bars and bistros – make sure to try out the excellent seafood found here. Other delights found here include the ruins of the 13th-century Whitby Abbey, a picturesque stretch of sandy beach and a museum celebrating the world-famous explorer James Cook.
Enter through the quiet, inviting yard; there’s a place to hang coats and store shoes in the entrance hall. Sit back and relax in the cosy lounge, where you’ll find an electric fire and a selection of books; the streamlined kitchen has all the essentials and a dining area. Next to it is a bathroom and a bedroom with bunk beds. The main bedroom is on the first floor and has a double bed and restricted headroom due to the beamed ceiling. From here you can see out onto rooftops and the sea beyond.
An enclosed garden at the front has patio furniture and a bench table and is a terrific place to sit in fine weather.
