Explore Lakeland walks in every direction from this period cottage situated in the centre of Elterwater village. In fewer than 4 miles, you can discover the home of William Wordsworth and learn more about his life in the poet’s dedicated museum, roam the chocolate-box buildings of pretty Grasmere, play crazy golf at Ambleside and visit the National Trust’s Yew Tree Farm, formerly owned by Beatrix Potter. Within 10 miles you can board a pleasure cruise or hire water sports equipment at Bowness-on-Windermere, see the ruins of a Roman Fort, or join a pony trek on the fells surrounding Windermere. Should you wish to venture as far as 20 miles, you can reach the aquarium at Newby Bridge, an arts centre in Kendal and an active heritage steam railway at Lakeside.
Entering the cottage through the front porch, you’ll arrive in the lounge with original ceiling beams and an open fire around which are cushy, cosy seating options. Off the lounge is the traditional yet functional kitchen/dining room with seating for six around a farmhouse style table. Heading upstairs, you’ll find a heated drying cupboard with extra hanging space for outdoor gear. A king-size bedroom benefits from an en-suite shower room, while a twin bedroom makes use of the main family bathroom. Both bedrooms overlook the charming village street, with views across to Langdale Beck.
An area of patio at the front of the cottage overlooks the local bowling green, enabling you to feel part of village life as you sit at the furniture provided. Or for a little privacy, the elevated rear garden is a relaxing space to read a book on a warm evening.
