A peaceful village just off the busy A12 between London and Lowestoft, Frostenden is home to a Grade I-listed church that has one of Suffolk’s oldest round towers. Beyond the church wall, a ditch marks the route of a river that was navigable in medieval days when Frostenden was a thriving seaport. Nearby, a historically significant mound is thought to be the site of Suffolk’s only Viking fortification, while various finds have suggested that neighbouring Covehithe may have had Roman inhabitants. Today, visitors come from far and wide to enjoy the peaceful, unspoilt countryside and coastline here. To the north of Covehithe, Benacre Broad is an area of lagoons and reed beds behind a shingle beach and is an important habitat for birds such as marsh harriers and bitterns. For a different day by the sea, head 5.5 miles to Southwold, home to an iconic pier, a lighthouse and promenade, and the base of the Adnams Brewery. Lowestoft, 10.5 miles away, is a town steeped in maritime history with its pristine South Beach, a busy harbour and ‘Gulliver’, the tallest wind turbine in the UK, at nearby Ness Point.
Adjacent to the owners’ home, this idyllic country cottage offers comfortable accommodation where a couple can catch up and unwind. Together-time is the focus here, with an open-plan living space on the ground floor that includes a sitting and kitchen area, with double doors leading to further seating and a dining suite in the conservatory close by. There’s a shower room on the ground floor too, while the double bedroom on the first floor is warm, inviting and bathed in light thanks to well-dressed, dual-aspect windows.
Enjoy great views of the garden from the conservatory. Surrounded by countryside and well-tended, it’s a nature-lover’s delight with a large lawn and a patio where you can soak up the sun and then gaze at unspoilt, starry skies.
