A lovely waterside property sleeping six is a perfect base for exploring this beautiful corner of the North Devon coast. The cottage is just 450 metres from the quaint village of Lynmouth. Stroll around its shops, pubs, cafes and pretty harbour at leisure and be sure to take a ride on the famous funicular railway. Said to be the world’s highest and steepest Victorian railway still fully powered by water, it will whisk you up from Lynmouth to the twin village of Lynton, 152 metres above, with breathing views of the coastline all the way. On the doorstep is a walk leading to the renowned beauty spot of Watersmeet, where two fast-flowing rivers, the East Lyn and the Hoar Oak, converge. Follow the path (3.7 miles) through idyllic scenery and enjoy some well-earned refreshments in the tearoom at Watersmeet House, a 19th-century fishing lodge now run by the National Trust. Children and adults alike will enjoy a ride on the Lynton and Barnstaple Railway, which runs along a scenic route through Exmoor National Park – head to Woody Bay Station, 4 miles from Lynton.
Step into the spacious open-plan living/dining/room of this peaceful cottage and relax on comfortable sofas in front of the wood burner, with home entertainment from SkyTV and Blu-Ray DVD. Keen cooks will appreciate the large, country-style kitchen leading off the dining area. The first floor houses a shower room with a WC and there are two bedrooms: a king-size with views over the river and a twin, overlooking woodland. Cottage-style stairs lead to the second floor and a large twin bedroom, with sloping ceilings and windows looking out to the river and trees.
Outside, a pretty rear courtyard patio framed by mature woodland has a table and chairs for al fresco dining.
