Property code: OC-SFVFB

These three adjacent barns are a fabulous destination for a large family gathering or a group of friends, with plenty of room both inside and out for socialising and relaxing. The barns are in the heart of the countryside yet just a few miles from the coast, and surrounded by 3,000 acres of ancient heathland, conservation farmland, woods and meadows. This Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty is criss-crossed with miles of rural footpaths and bridleways, perfect for walking and cycling. Bawdsey, at the mouth of the River Deben, is 4.5 miles away, and the busy market town of Woodbridge, with its wealth of independent shops, cafes and restaurants, is 6 miles. Sutton Hoo, the Anglo-Saxon royal burial site, is 4.5 miles – a must-see while you’re in the area. Venture a little further to Aldeburgh, 18 miles, to explore this timeless seaside town, where fishermen still haul their boats up the steep shingle beach and sell their catch each morning. The wide high street has attractive Georgian buildings housing independent shops, galleries and restaurants (and the fish and chips is said to be among the best in the UK). The 16th-century Moot Hall is worth a visit, as is the fine hilltop church, where composer Benjamin Britten is buried.

The Victorian barns have been converted with great sensitivity and attention to detail, showcasing their agricultural origins in the form of exposed beams and brickwork while inserting modern staircases, flooring and lighting. The result is an outstanding mix of old and new, striking yet also welcoming and comfortable, with every amenity on hand to help you enjoy your holiday. The smallest barn (for two people) has an open-plan living space with lounge, kitchen and dining areas. On its first floor is a king-size bedroom (with a small balcony) and an en-suite bathroom with a free-standing, roll-top bath. The two larger barns each sleep eight people, and both have (on the ground floor) a spacious lounge/diner with a wood burner, a separate, fully fitted kitchen and a ground-floor cloakroom. One also boasts a cosy snug with a sofa, bean bags and a TV and DVD player – ideal for children’s film nights. There are four bedrooms on the first floors of both larger barns. In one, there are two king-size bedrooms with en-suite shower rooms, a single bedroom, and a family room with a bunk bed and a full size single bed, plus a family bathroom. In the other, there are two king-size bedrooms with en-suite shower rooms, a twin room and a bunk bedroom, plus a family bathroom and a family shower room.

Outside each barn is a private, paved terrace with table and chairs, perfect for recharging in the fresh country air, and also a large area of lawn which surrounds the three properties. Beyond this are fenced and gated areas of grass and some old farm barns – one of which houses a table tennis table and dart board for you to enjoy.

  • 8 bedrooms – 5 king-size, 2 bunk beds, 1 twin, 1 single
  • 8 bathrooms – 2 family bathrooms with WCs, 1 shower room with WC, 1 en-suite bathroom with WC, 4 en-suite shower rooms with WCs, 2 separate WCs
  • Each barn has a kitchen with electric hob and oven, either a fridge with freezer compartment or a fridge/freezer, dishwasher and microwave
  • Each barn has a washing machine. Dryer is located in the Laundry room along with another washing machine
  • Travel cot and highchair available
  • Wood burners in the 2 larger barns
  • 3 Smart TVs, 3 DVDs, 2 sound systems, TV, DVD player and radio
  • Enclosed garden with lawn and terraces

It was a lovely stay and the accomodation lends itself to a large group going away to celebrate a special birthday . The accomodation is large enough that even when full you can find space and there are activities for adults and children alike. It is a very nice yet rustic set of barns and I can imagine in the summer it would be even better.

Thank you for a great stay. Barns were clean and warm, lovely underfloor heating, tastefully decorated, great communal space. According to info at cottages, there is a hot tub which we were not aware of so worth checking it can be used (may be seasonal). This is a lovely Barn complex, tastefully converted to retain original features. It was ideal for our family celebration and was fully equipped for self catering. These are comfortable, spacious and well equipped barn conversions, with loads of outdoor space and games, and surrounded by quiet, gently rolling countryside. The nearby pub is lovely, a short walk away, and there are endless possibilities for walks. You can hear owls outside at night, and visit the local fields of pigs. If you love the countryside and nature this is the property for you, we loved walking the footpaths and seeing the deer. We hired all 3 barns for a family get together and everything we needed was there, thank you for a great holiday.

We had a fantastic stay in the barns, two families, bride and groom, bridesmaids and some guests for a wedding at Woodhall Manor so the location was perfect. We all got together again on the Sunday which extended our lovely weekend. The reason I marked down some of the scores slightly was due to the following minor but important points - lack of anRead morey hanging in the smaller bedrooms. Obviously this is needed for a wedding and simple hooks on walls would be sufficient - only a small number of rooms had full length mirrors and none in bathrooms - confusing and inaccurate instructions, examples being 1 - waste bins not clearly labelled in accordance with instructions, inconsistent in each barn, communal large bins not labelled as stated and bat barn not identified at all 2 - TV instructions in Vancouver incorrect as no free stat box provided. We had to take from another TV to watch TV in the main room 3 - linen instructions inconsistent in each barn and then different again to the instructions received by email. 4 - sharp cooking knives poor quality and insufficient in number when catering for a large number of people. No knife sharpener. This sort of attention to detail is required to avoid confusion and make the stay perfect. I hope my comments are considered constructive. Overall thought we had a a great stay and it did add to a perfect weekend. Hide
