These three adjacent barns are a fabulous destination for a large family gathering or a group of friends, with plenty of room both inside and out for socialising and relaxing. The barns are in the heart of the countryside yet just a few miles from the coast, and surrounded by 3,000 acres of ancient heathland, conservation farmland, woods and meadows. This Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty is criss-crossed with miles of rural footpaths and bridleways, perfect for walking and cycling. Bawdsey, at the mouth of the River Deben, is 4.5 miles away, and the busy market town of Woodbridge, with its wealth of independent shops, cafes and restaurants, is 6 miles. Sutton Hoo, the Anglo-Saxon royal burial site, is 4.5 miles – a must-see while you’re in the area. Venture a little further to Aldeburgh, 18 miles, to explore this timeless seaside town, where fishermen still haul their boats up the steep shingle beach and sell their catch each morning. The wide high street has attractive Georgian buildings housing independent shops, galleries and restaurants (and the fish and chips is said to be among the best in the UK). The 16th-century Moot Hall is worth a visit, as is the fine hilltop church, where composer Benjamin Britten is buried.
The Victorian barns have been converted with great sensitivity and attention to detail, showcasing their agricultural origins in the form of exposed beams and brickwork while inserting modern staircases, flooring and lighting. The result is an outstanding mix of old and new, striking yet also welcoming and comfortable, with every amenity on hand to help you enjoy your holiday. The smallest barn (for two people) has an open-plan living space with lounge, kitchen and dining areas. On its first floor is a king-size bedroom (with a small balcony) and an en-suite bathroom with a free-standing, roll-top bath. The two larger barns each sleep eight people, and both have (on the ground floor) a spacious lounge/diner with a wood burner, a separate, fully fitted kitchen and a ground-floor cloakroom. One also boasts a cosy snug with a sofa, bean bags and a TV and DVD player – ideal for children’s film nights. There are four bedrooms on the first floors of both larger barns. In one, there are two king-size bedrooms with en-suite shower rooms, a single bedroom, and a family room with a bunk bed and a full size single bed, plus a family bathroom. In the other, there are two king-size bedrooms with en-suite shower rooms, a twin room and a bunk bedroom, plus a family bathroom and a family shower room.
Outside each barn is a private, paved terrace with table and chairs, perfect for recharging in the fresh country air, and also a large area of lawn which surrounds the three properties. Beyond this are fenced and gated areas of grass and some old farm barns – one of which houses a table tennis table and dart board for you to enjoy.
