Set within the Howardian Hills Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, this elegant cottage is a wonderful base for exploring the North York Moors National Park and the North Yorkshire Heritage Coast. Ride a steam train from Pickering (18 miles) through the sublime, local landscape. Enjoy a whale-watching boat trip in Whitby and walk the streets to soak in the historic ambience of Gothic architecture, smugglers and shipwrecks. Castle Howard (13 miles) is one of Britain’s finest stately homes, set in 1000 acres of parkland with temples, lakes, statues and fountains; it’s also home to the splendid Yorkshire Arboretum. York (13.5 miles) is a majestic medieval city, with its Minster, Viking centre attraction, winding cobbled lanes and superb independent pubs, shops, galleries, museums and eateries.
Inside you’ll find a bright and welcoming interior that has retained its historic charm. The open-plan lounge/kitchen/diner is a wonderful space – the kitchen area is spacious and streamlined, with windows over the worktops that look onto the lawn. The floor-to-ceiling window/door allows natural light to flood in, and there’s underfloor heating in this room too for added cosiness. Ascend the wooden stairs to the first floor, to find a king-size bedroom with a large window, a single bedroom with sweet lawn views and the soothing bathroom, with a bath and shower. On the first floor you’ll also find the shared laundry room.
Make the most of the shared tennis court, enjoy a stroll through the grounds, or sit out on the lovely front patio.
