Set just 200 metres from Southwold Beach, this charming abode is the ideal sanctuary for families and friends in search of Suffolk seaside escapes. Southwold has a lovely old pier, an arts centre with a theatre, a working lighthouse, three museums and a quaint town centre, full of independent shops, pubs, eateries and galleries. You’ll find wide sandy beaches at Walberswick (either 1.5 miles across the summer foot ferry or 8.5 miles by car), Covehithe (5.5 miles), Dunwich and Kessingland (both 9 miles), Lowestoft (11.5 miles) and Aldeburgh (18 miles). Dunwich has a fascinating museum and is home to RSPB Dingle Marshes. RSPB Minsmere, where Springwatch was recently based, is just 11.5 miles away. Lovers of ancient history will adore the exquisite artefacts on display at Suton Hoo (29 miles), a site that boasts a wealth of Anglo-Saxon treasures.
Inside the cottage, you’ll find a comfortable and welcoming interior. The lounge has two two-seater sofas and a TV – perfect for kicking back and letting the evening flow by. The kitchen/diner has LED ceiling lights and a dining table for four, tucked away in the spandrel beneath the stairs; it’s a tranquil space in which to cook, eat and converse with a glass of wine or a local beer or cider. The ground floor shower room has a large curved cubicle and WC. Up a flight of steep and narrow stairs, there are two bedrooms, a double and a twin, with Georgian-style sash windows and an elegant and cosy ambience.
A door from the kitchen opens onto the rear enclosed courtyard, set with a large wooden table and six garden chairs. Get some sun here in this pleasant south-facing spot and dine alfresco as you plan for another full day of East Anglian adventures.
