Self-catering holiday cottages in Aboyne

The picturesque village of Aboyne is set within view of the beautiful moors and mountain landscapes which lie beyond. Just on the edge of the Scottish Highlands, it’s a place where you can get away from it all and enjoy nature at its best. The royal family’s summer home, Balmoral, is nearby in Crathie (18 miles), with parts which are open to the public.

Walking is a favourite pastime here, with plenty of routes close by. Just a short drive from the Cairngorms National Park, there are awe-inspiring landscapes within easy reach. Salmon fishing on the River Dee is also popular, with the season kicking off at the beginning of February. In fact, activities abound in and around Aboyne, with Aboyne golf course being a magnet for golfers, and other sports including archery, clay pigeon shooting, and quad biking can all be enjoyed at Deeside Activity Park. The Glen Tanar estate (3.3 miles) also offers a range of country sports.

There are a few times of year which make for an even more exciting trip. When the Loch of Aboyne freezes over during the winter months, it’s a popular spot for practising curling, while during the summer, waterskiiing and other water sports take over. Visit in the first week of August and you’ll be treated to the Highland Games on the green, complete with bagpipe playing, dancing, races and caber tossing.

Our Aboyne cottages offer a comfortable base for your holiday in Royal Deeside, whether you’re looking to visit the nearby attractions or pull on your walking boots and head for the hills. Our cosy cottages for two make the perfect retreat for a romantic break, while you’ll find sanctuary for groups of friends and family in our larger holiday cottages in Aboyne.
