Located in the south of the Peak District in the area commonly referred to as the White Peak, and on the borders of Staffordshire and Derbyshire, Alstonefield is a picturesque little village with a lively community spirit. The traditional village green is an idyllic focal point, frequently at the heart of many events hosted throughout the year. With dappled shade from the trees and The George pub for refreshments, it’s a lovely spot to spend an hour or two.
There are two popular pubs well worth visiting within the village itself, whilst the bustling market town of Ashbourne is just 7 miles away boasting a wider range of eateries. The rich history of the area offers a draw for culture fanatics, as the 16th-century Tithe Barn remains standing and the ancient burial ground of Hanson Grange can be discovered just a short drive away.
The surrounding countryside of rolling green fields and the beautiful Dove and Manifold valleys are a haven for walkers, while the rivers harbour trout – rich pickings for the keen fisherman. Discover the picturesque landscape which is peppered with outcrops with endearing names: Lover’s Leap, Dovedale Castle and the Twelve Apostles to name but a few. There are also natural caves in the area – Pickering Cave and Dove Holes. The largest cave to be found locally, Thor’s Cave is in the Manifold Valley.
