Self-catering holiday cottages in Applecross

A peninsula in the Highlands where grey rocks poke out from an undulating grassy blanket which backs the awe-inspiring beaches in North Scotland. Before 1975 the only way to access Applecross was by boat or by footpath and today there are still just two roads into the town, the perfect rural escape of from the busy reality of everyday life.

A heady combination of towering mountains, rugged coast and picturesque island vistas, Applecross boasts one of the most majestic landscapes in the whole of the UK. The peninsula encompasses an array of crofting townships, each with its own character. It’s the perfect base for explorations along the West Coast of Scotland, with easy access to the islands and a host of scenic walks. The approach to the peninsula is an adventure in itself, the winding coast road offering breathtaking view after breathtaking view. Creeping up to 625 metres with a series of hairpin bends and dizzying drops, it’s not for the faint-hearted but is a spectacular route for those who choose to brave it.

The area is of rich historical and natural importance and is known to have been settled nine-thousand years ago. There is wildlife in abundance here, including seals, otters, red deer, pine Martin, foxes and even wild cats. The peninsula’s habitats support an astonishing number of birds, not to mention woodland, moorland and sphagnum bog plant life. Look up, and you may be lucky enough to spot a golden eagle soaring through the clear skies.
