Self-catering holiday cottages in Arbroath

The old harbour town of Arbroath has a fascinating history, dating right back to its settlement in the 12th century. The coast either side offers up attractive beaches and enticing cliff top walks, perfect for family days at the beach or picturesque coastal rambles.

At some point during your stay in Arbroath, you’re sure to come across the town’s famous delicacy – oak-smoked haddock, also known as the Arbroath Smokie. There are a handful of family-run smokehouses which make the tasty product to this day and you’ll come across them on a wander close to the harbour. You can walk all the way from the harbour, along the coast past Victoria Park and onwards around the epic sandstone cliffs. Beyond lies a series of picturesque bays, linked by clifftop paths.

One of the most notable sights in Arbroath itself is Arbroath Abbey, which is associated with the Declaration of Arbroath of 1320, one of the most important documents in Scotland’s history. Now well-preserved remains, you can enjoy learning about the history from the interpretation panels. Other attractions include Kerr’s Miniature Railway, Signal Tower Museum, St Vigeans Stones and Museum and Hospitalfield Arts. If you enjoy a round of golf, head for Arbroath Golf Links or Letham Grange (4.5 miles).
