Self-catering holiday cottages in Auchtermuchty

Auchtermuchty is a town in Fife in eastern Scotland, a few miles from the mouth of the River Tay which flows out into the North Sea. There has been a settlement at Auchtermuchty for more than 2,000 years, with the Romans known to have set up camp in part of what became today’s town. Fans of the TV series Dr Finlay may recognise the attractive streets of Auchtermuchty from the second series which was filmed between 1993 and 1996.

Auchtermuchty is a quiet but thriving community, with several local recreational footpaths heading out into the wilds of Fife. Day trips from the town can include some of Scotland’s most characterful cities, including Edinburgh (38 miles), St. Andrews (19 miles) and Dundee (21.5 miles). It is within easy reach of the fishing villages of the East Neuk of Fife with Pittenweem (25 miles), Anstruther (25.5 miles), Crail (27 miles) and Elie and Earlsferry (23 miles) being just some of those which should be on your list to visit.

Nearby, the Backhouse Rossie Estate (2 miles) is a lovely spot to while away a day, with an RHS Partner Walled Garden, café and exhibition centre, as well as plenty for younger visitors to enjoy. Other attractions in the area include the peaceful surroundings of Birnie Loch (3 miles), Balvaird Castle (6.5 miles) and Fife Zoo (3.5 miles).

Our holiday cottages in Auchtermuchty provide the perfect base from which to explore this picturesque corner of Scotland.
