Barlow is a historic village set amongst beautiful rural scenery. Featuring in the Domesday Book, the village has a long past, once known as ‘Barley’ after the family who owned the village in the 1200s. Amongst the historical traditions which still remain is the annual Well Dressing celebration, which is marked by the adornment of wells throughout the Peak District with elaborate floral displays. The decorations are usually made from flower petals, but Barlow has become known for its well dressings of whole flower heads.

Barlow isn’t far from Chesterfield (4 miles) and Sheffield (12 miles) for days out enjoying the wonderful attractions in the area, while the countryside itself provides plenty of opportunity to explore. Enjoy walks along the picturesque Chesterfield Canal, around the Linacre Reservoirs and through local Monk Wood, or head a little further afield to the enticing trails which criss-cross the hills and dales of the Peak District.
