Baslow is a charming village on the northernmost edge of picturesque Chatsworth Park in the heart of the Peak District. It sits within a scenic location, below Baslow Edge, a gritstone escarpment which can be explored on foot to take in the spectacular views from the top. Within the village are a delightful selection of eateries, a smattering of boutiques and gorgeous stone cottages set beside the River Derwent. The village green, Goose Green is the hub of life here, upon which you’ll find the delightful Devonshire Arms pub.

Besides the draws of the village itself, Baslow is perfectly positioned for venturing off into the Peak District. Tick off the stunning gritstone edges of Baslow, Curbar and Froggatt, or take a more sedate stroll along the Derwent Valley Heritage Trail straight through the village. The Monsal Trail along the former Midland Railway Line offers yet more scenic walking, with four long tunnels adding interest en route.

A holiday in Baslow wouldn’t be complete without a visit to the elegant Chatsworth House. Home to the Duke and Duchess of Devonshire, the stately home has been passed down through 16 generations of the Cavendish family and is open to the public to explore its opulent rooms and stunning collections of art, jewellery, furniture, photography and ceramics. The grounds, too, are a beautiful place for a walk, with woodland, parkland, historic architecture and even the picturesque village of Edensor to enjoy.
