In the valley of the River Taw, a few miles south of the town of Barnstaple, is the North Devon village of Bishops Tawton. The village takes its name from the river and having once been a residence for the Bishops of Exeter.
The village church is one of the few remaining in Devon that retain an original medieval spire, built in the fourteenth century. In addition to the church, Bishops Tawton hosts a number of local businesses such as the butchers and a popular pub, The Chichester Arms.
