Set on the South Cornwall coast, just a few miles above the popular seaside town of Fowey, the riverside village of Bodinnick is the landing point for the Fowey ferry, which has been going since the 13th century. The area around Bodinnick is known as ‘Daphne du Maurier’ country as her former house, Ferryside, is situated next to the slipway and is still owned by her family. There are other reminders of the famous author all around, not least 20 miles away on Bodmin Moor, where Jamaica Inn, named after the du Maurier novel of the same name is situated.
Pop into The Old Ferry Inn for a pint before exploring the town. Set on the steep hill up from the ferry port, it has been providing sustenance to sailors for over 400 years. Come and stay at this calm, picturesque village and see what inspired Daphne to write many of her novels here – we think you’ll be sold! You may want to stay in a traditional fisherman’s cottage, or maybe you are looking for a family-friendly converted barn in the countryside to take the brood to – whatever you seek, come and enjoy a traditional South Cornwall holiday in one of our Bodinnick holiday cottages and discover the best of both Cornwall's coast and countryside.
