A curious riverside village with a phenomenal backdrop of ancient fells, picturesque Braithwaite is set by Coledale Beck and at the foot of Barrow Fell and Whinlatter Pass. This typical English village is a small and simple retreat, home to a pub, shop and village hall, yet within reach of some of the Lake District’s top attractions. England’s only true mountain forest, Whinlatter Forest, sits 2 miles away. The popular market town of Keswick sits 2.5 miles east of Braithwaite, and is on the shores of vast Derwentwater, where you can enjoy canoeing and sailing, visit scenic Friars Crag, or spend an evening at Theatre by the Lake. North of Braithwaite you’ll find a second lake, Bassenthwaite Lake National Nature Reserve, a much quieter lake with a remote feel that’s popular with birdwatchers, photographers and walkers.
Spend some time in one of our Braithwaite cottages if you would like to enjoy the wide variety of outdoor sports available in the area, or simply relax amid the Lake District’s scenic landscape.
