Close to the Staffordshire border and in the White Peak area of the Peak District national park, Butterton is a small and pretty village overlooking the Manifold Valley. Its striking church forms a focal point in the village, which is served by a local pub and post office, and also has a village hall.
The lovely little village is perfectly located for stepping out into nature and roaming the picturesque landscapes of the Manifold Valley, while still only lying 8 miles from the thrills and spills of one of the UK’s top attractions, Alton Towers. With rides and attractions to suit all ages and levels of thrill seeking, plus the fantastic water park in the same grounds, there’s plenty to keep the whole family entertained – you may even want to return for a second day!
For more sedate day trips, enjoy driving out to the numerous interesting towns and villages in the area. The thermal spa town of Buxton, with its gorgeous ornamental gardens and impressive Georgian and Victorian architecture is a feast for the eyes, boasting among its many attractinos, the showcaves of Poole’s Cavern and the Buxton Opera House. Also nearby are Ashbourne (14 miles) and Leek (8.5 miles), both attractive destinations in their own right, and perfect for afternoon tea and a browse of the shops. The Manifold Way, which runs along a former railway line, is a picturesque 8-mile multi-use route through the White Peak countryside.
We have a range of holiday cottages in Butterton, from cosy couple’s hideaways where you can spend your days walking and soaking up the awe-inspiring scenery, to beautiful family cottages where you can combine adrenaline adventures at Alton Towers with forays into nature. Whichever of our Butterton holiday cottages you choose, your break in the Peak District is sure to leave you with lasting magical memories.
