On the northern fringes of the Lake District, 6 miles south west of Wigton, lies the village of Caldbeck. High Pike is the fell closest to the village and it provides both a popular local walk and a starting point for other routes across the fells. Come to Caldbeck to visit St Kentigern’s Church and the grave of the famous hunter, John Peel, or simply to enjoy the beautiful surroundings. One of our pretty Caldbeck cottages makes the perfect base from which to explore.
Walkers will enjoy the paths across the fells which begin from the nearby High Pike where they can follow in the footsteps of famous climber Chris Bonington. Further afield from Caldbeck you can visit the towns of Cockermouth (20 miles), Keswick (16.5 miles), and Penrith (16 miles) for culture and shops. Or head to Skedda for a climb; the nearest lakes are Lake Bassenthwaite (22 miles), Derwentwater (18 miles) and Ullswater (18.5 miles) for lakeside walks and water sports. For things to do and great walks in the Lake District, why not visit some of our blogs?
Spend some time in one of our Caldbeck cottages and relax among the scenic beauty of the Lake District National Park. View our guide to Caldbeck or search for Caldbeck holiday cottages above.
