Chapel Stile is a tiny village situated in the gorgeous U-shaped Langdale Valley in the Lake District National Park. The Langdale Valley includes Great and Little Langdale peaks and the Lingmoor Fells. Located in an ideal spot for hikers, Chapel Stile lies at the foot of Great Langdale; there are many walking trails that originate in the village. England’s highest peak, Scafell Pike, can be reached from the valley or if you love bikes, try the Langdale Cycle Trail. Chapel Stile has an interesting history with many of the village’s buildings having been established in the 19th century by quarrymen; the walls are made from the green-coloured slate that was mined in the local area.
There are some great pubs in the area including the New and Old Dungeon Ghyll (3 miles) and the National Trust’s only pub, Sticklebarn (2.5 miles), can be found a couple of miles away in the middle of the Langdale Pikes. The village is close to well-known Lake District landmarks, towns and attractions such asLake Ambleside (5 miles), Beatrix Potter’s former home of Hill Top Farm (8.5 miles), Zeffirelli’s and Fellini’s cinema and restaurants (5 miles), Windermere Jetty Museum (9 miles), Grasmere (3 miles) and Lake Windermere (5 miles); there is so much to do, no matter what takes your fancy.
If you are looking for a self-catering holiday cottage in the Lake District for your next break, Chapel Stile will offer you a perfect base for a memorable escape from the everyday.
