Lining Northumberland’s southern coast, Druridge Bay offers a 7-mile stretch of gorgeous seaside landscapes, with the nearby village of Cresswell being the perfect place from which to explore it.
Our Druridge Bay and Cresswell cottages have the Druridge Bay Country Park on your doorstep, stretching from Cresswell at one end, to the port town of Amble at the other. Once a coal mine, a large lake lies at its centre and is surrounded by woods and meadows. There is wildlife in abundance, and dotted along the coast are several nature reserves providing havens for the local animal inhabitants. From migrating birds to resident swans, there’s always something interesting to observe. At the wetland habitat of Druridge Pools, you may even spot an otter, as well as birds such as snipe, redshank and teal.
Visitors can uncover 800 years of history at the Woodhorn Museum, while you can also make the most of the long sandy beach and learn to surf at the Northside Surf School. On Ladyburn Lake, too, you can choose from a range of water sports, including windsurfing, canoeing and sailing.
The quiet village of Cresswell is the perfect place for a peaceful walking and wildlife-watching holiday on the coast. At the opposite end of Druridge Bay Country Park, Amble, at the mouth of the River Coquet, offers plenty of things to do, including boat trips to Coquet Island and souvenir shopping at Amble Harbour Village on the harbour. There are eateries aplenty and a Sunday Market where you can pick up fresh produce to cook back at your cottage.
Within a short drive, you’ll also be able to visit the seaside resort of Newbiggin-by-the-Sea and the larger town of Morpeth.
