Self-catering holiday cottages in Duns

Come to Duns and stay at one of our lush self-catering holiday properties. If you are looking to get to know Scotland, then Duns is a great place to start. It is the formal county town for theScottish Borders, so it is a good place to base yourself when exploring this lovely area. There has been a settlement here since prehistory, as evidenced by the remains of the Iron Age hill fort. Visitors to Duns can enjoy some of the best shopping in the area and the medieval Duns Castle which dates, in part, back to the early medieval period, is rumoured to be haunted by the ghost of Alexander Hay. The castle is located in the grounds of a park and bird sanctuary since it was redeveloped in the 1800s. The kirk near Ellemford is said to be embarkation site of James IV and his commanders for the Battle of Flodden (1513).

Walkers and view baggers will want to climb Duns Law, a 700ft hill offering amazing views out to the coast and the outlying merse. Other local visitor attractions include Manderston House, which is a stately home where you can get an insight into how life was lived Downton Abbey-style for staff and family. Also, if you are interested in F1 (Formula 1) there is a museum dedicated to Jim Clark. Duns is also thought to be the birthplace of the 14th-century philosopher, John Duns Scotus, who tenured at the University of Paris - you can see a statue of him in Duns town park.
