Self-catering accommodation in Dunwich

Lovely Dunwich on the Suffolk coast is one of the East of England’s best hidden gems. Dunwich is known as the lost city of East Anglia and was once the capital of an ancient Saxon kingdom during the 11th century. The city was wiped out by a flood leaving behind a tiny slither of a village; visit the Dunwich Museum or walk the village’s history trail to find out more.

It’s situated in an AONB within a short drive of the coastal spots of Southwold (18 miles) and Walberswick (13 miles), allowing you to take full advantage of the Suffolk coast during your stay. Attractive Dunwich Beach is perfect for a long walk with your loved ones, complemented by the neighbouring wonders of Dunwich Heath, a nature reserve managed by the National Trust. Home to a diversity of species of flora and fauna, including some very cute deer, it’s a wonderful place to explore. The National Trust hosts an annual series of family-friendly activities at Dunwich Heath, so get all the family involved. Dunwich also has a good selection of local eateries – visit The Ship Inn, for a tasty lunch and chillout in the beer garden or treat yourself to an afternoon tea at Flora Tea Rooms or Dingle Hill Tearooms.
