Halifax is a market town in West Yorkshire that still retains features from its industrial past, with old mills converted and reclaimed by nature dotting the surrounding hills and countryside. It’s a happening little town with cultural hot spots like the Piece Market, which is an ornate town square with marketplace with colonnaded shopping units around its edge. The town is also great for evening entertainment with restaurants and clubs galore as well as a multiplex cinema. Other attractions in the town include Eureka! The National Children's Museum, the Calderdale walking trail and the Halifax Minster. A bit further afield from Halifax is the city of Bradford. Bradford is home to the National Media and Science Museum, and also has some great shopping prospects. The city centre is huge so its unlikely that you will return to your self-catering holiday cottage empty handed. Travel over the Pennines over to Manchester, a vibrant city with lots of culture and interesting places to go.
