Self-catering holiday cottages in Isle of Whithorn

The Isle of Whithorn is a peninsula and community on the southernmost tip of South West Scotland, with remarkable views over the Irish Sea to the Isle of Man and the north-west coast of England. One of Scotland's oldest settlements, this old seaport has been inhabited for many centuries and has a welcoming air, with plenty of local facilities and an excellent pub, the Steam Packet Inn. Though no longer an island, this picturesque village is an Outstanding Conservation Area and home to Scotland's first Christian church, built in 397 AD by St Ninian, whose shrine can be visited at Whithorn Priory and Museum - the remains of the 13th century St Ninian's Chapel can still be seen at the end of the harbour.

Tourist attractions near our Isle of Whithorn cottages include the Isle of Whithorn Tower, which acts as a navigational aid for the many sailing and water sports activities taking place in the bay, and St Ninian's Cave which can be reached via a short walk through a wooded glen, said to have been used by the saint as a private place of prayer. The harbour is the focus of the village, bustling with local boats fishing for crabs, lobsters, and scallops. If you’re lucky, you might be able to spot seals, porpoises and dolphins in the distance from here. Stay in our self-catering accommodation on the Isle of Whithorn and as well as visiting the area’s fascinating historical sites, you can look forward to discovering the beaches, forests, golf courses, and gardens of this extraordinary part of Dumfries and Galloway.
