A historic South Devon mill town, Ivybridge is situated just to the south of the wilds of Dartmoor. The town’s name comes from its medieval packhorse bridge over the fast-flowing River Erme, which powered Ivybridge’s mills. The bridge still stands today and is well worth a visit – you may even recognise the scene from one of the iconic J.M.W. Turner’s beautiful paintings. Surrounded by the rolling countryside of the South Hams and the vast open moorland of the Dartmoor National Park, excellent walking, cycling, horse riding and rock climbing is right on the doorstep of our Ivybridge cottages.
For intrepid walkers, Ivybridge is also the starting point of the Two Moors Way - a long-distance walking route to Lynmouth on the north coast of Exmoor. Or if you fancy a day at the seaside, there are some beautiful Devon beaches within 10 miles including the pristine sands and clear waters of Mothecombe Beach. And once you’ve had enough of exploring, there are some lovely eateries and characterful pubs near our Ivybridge holiday cottages where you can relax with a refreshing pint of local ale and some hearty food.
