Kelso is a picturesque market town in the Scottish Borders. With a prominent position at the junction of the rivers Tweed and Teviot, the town benefits from stunning views and vast rural landscapes. It is also brimming with architectural and historical interest. The iconic remains of Kelso Abbey built by monks in 1128 are still visible today, as well as an elegant bridge with five arches that acted as a prototype for Waterloo Bridge in London, and Floors Castle with its opulent interiors, world-class art collection, and extensive parkland.
Set out from one of our Kelso cottages and wander the town’s cobbled streets, dipping in and out of shops, cafes, restaurants and pubs housed in beautiful Victorian and Georgian architecture. You’ll find a huge range of attractions in the town, including a racecourse, ice rink, golf course, and parks and gardens, so there’s no shortage of things to do. Our holiday lets in Kelso are also within easy reach of Edinburgh, the beaches of the Berwickshire coast, Northumberland, and the rolling Border countryside where an abundance of outdoor pursuits can be enjoyed like walking and cycling. The Borderloop, Tweed Cycle Route, and the Coast and Castles route are just three of many trails to explore by bicycle, while the Kelso Town Trail, Sprouston Circular, Borders Abbey Way, and the Kelso Tweed Riverside and Abbey walk offer ways to explore by foot. Add to that a lively programme of events and festivals, and you’ll soon see why our self-catering accommodation in Kelso makes a great base from which to discover the best of Scotland.
