Kerry is a small village to the east of the Powys town of Newtown, in Mid Wales. Nestled in the beautiful Vale of Kerry and close to the Shropshire Hills Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, this is a wonderful location for outdoor adventures. You don’t have to cross the Welsh borders to find great walking routes and scenic views though as the area around Kerry has no shortage of natural beauty itself. This picturesque region is known as The Welsh Marches and is steeped in history. It is the site of the Battle of Kerry, fought nearby in 1228 between Welsh prince Llywelyn Fawr and English nobleman Hubert de Burgh.
From our holiday cottages in Kerry, you can enjoy a village shop and two pubs, perfect after an invigorating day exploring the magnificent Kerry Ridgeway. This 15-mile walking trail winds its way through the surrounding rolling hills, and from the summit, there are remarkable views of Wales on one side and England on the other. As well as tremendous scenery, this stunning area of Wales abounds in tourist hotspots, including Montgomery and Powis Castles, the medieval towns of Bishops Castle, Ludlow, Shrewsbury and Machynlleth, and the Eryri/Snowdonia and Brecon Beacons National Parks.
