Self-catering holiday cottages in Moffat

Moffat is a scenic and historic spa town set in the beautiful Annandale Valley, close to the motorway making it the perfect destination for a short break or trip over the border.

A large ram sculpture in the centre of town is a nod to Moffat’s sheep farming history. Walk out from the town to the north along the first stage of the Annandale Way and you will reach The Devil’s Beef Tub – a remarkable deep hollow where stolen sheep and cattle used to be hidden. Other walks in the surrounding hills take in a portion of the Southern Upland Way and scenic River Annan. For the best chance of spotting some of the local wildlife, take a stroll around the Moffat Community Nature Reserve which is home to a riot of colourful butterflies, dragonflies and other insects, as well as wading birds and swans.

If you enjoy stargazing, Moffat is the place to be as it has official Dark Sky Town status. Special streetlights limit light pollution and allow the heavens to be viewed in all their twinkling glory on a clear night.

There are many interesting attractions to visit in Moffat and the surrounding area, not least the Moffat Museum which houses photos, artefacts and information on the town’s history. Other places to visit in and around Moffat include Station Park (gardens, boating lake and family activities - 0.5 miles) Grey Mares Trail Nature Reserve (10 miles) and 7stanes Ae (mountain biking – 17 miles).
