Mortehoe, with its position on the North Devon coast, was once the haunt of smugglers and pirates but today the village is more popular with visitors who come for the beach and the South West Coast Path. Have a look at our Mortehoe cottages above.
Mortehoe is a little village in Devon, set in a valley backed by the sand dunes of Morte Point, a pretty coastal peninsula owned by the National Trust. Less than a mile away you will find the pretty coastal village of Woolacombe renowned for its wide sandy beach with perfect surfing conditions. The pretty cliff top location offers gorgeous views of Woolacombe village and out to sea.
There are some lovely long walks to take around the village as it is very close to the South West Coast Path, making it perfect for holidays with dogs - we even have some dog-friendly cottages close by. The stunning headland of Morte Point, a Site of Scientific Special Interest, is renowned for its rugged natural beauty and its dangerous past for the part it played in many historic shipwrecks. From the cliff tops you will sometimes be able to spot kestrels in the cliffs and seals in the waters below.
