Self-catering holiday cottages in Musselburgh

Musselburgh sits just 5.5 miles from the centre of Edinburgh on the banks of the Firth of Forth. The largest town in the area, the town is renowned for being ‘The Honest Toun’ and celebrates this each year with an annual election of their Honest Lad and Lass. The history in the town is clearly apparent with its historic building and ancient golf course. Shared with the links golf course is Musselburgh Racecourse another popular feature of the town. The racecourse is the oldest in Scotland and known as one of the UK’s most stylish! It hosts events which range from Ladies Day to Family Racedays. The golf course, too, has its own claim to fame – it is the oldest surviving golf club in the world.

A wander through the town will take you past several fine buildings, not least the Tolbooth in the High Street which dates back to the late 16th century. Visit the National Trust for Scotland’s Newhailes House – a stunning Palladian mansion with elaborate Rococo designs and decadent interior décor. For entertainment during your stay, book to see an event, show or film screening at the Brunton Theatre.

There are plenty of walks all around Musselburgh for those who enjoy exploring a place under their own steam. Spot birds along the shores of the Firth of Forth, take leisurely strolls along the River Esk and make the most of the scenic grounds of the Newhailes Estate.
