The North Lakes span a variety of lakes, including Buttermere, Bassenthwaite, Derwentwater and Loweswater, with a wealth of other wonders to discover too, from the Castlerigg Stone Circle to the Force Crag mine. Keswick sits on the edge of Derwentwater and is one of the area’s largest towns, home to a number of shops, pubs and restaurants as well as a lakeside theatre and the unique pencil museum. Cockermouth, another large town, sits on the western edge of the boundary and is the home of William Wordsworth’s birthplace as well as Jennings Brewery. There are also a few small villages to discover, including Threlkeld, Caldbeck and Bassenthwaite.
