Portpatrick is a beautiful spot on the Rhins of Galloway in Dumfries and Galloway,Scotland, where you can take scenic walks along the Southern Upland Way, a coast to coast pathway. You can also visit Dunskey Castle which is found just south of the village or relax with a stroll around the village and lunch out. Take a cruise or find a peaceful spot on a beach to picnic or let the children play. The Rhins of Galloway run from Meilleur Point in the north (close to Kirkcolm) down to the Mull of Galloway in the south. The name ‘rhins’ means points or headlands when translated from Gaelic. Coincide a trip to Portpatrick with the annual folk festival that takes place each September. If you are a keen angler the west coast of the Rhins of Galloway, especially around Portpatrick, is a popular spot to sea fish. There are some lovely walks along the cliffs by Dunskey Castle too. You really do feel like you’ve come to the ends of the world here, although the border with England is a relatively short drive away.
