This tiny hamlet overlooks the Wye Valley, between Buxton and Bakewell. Although tiny, it’s an ideal location if you’re looking for a rural Peak District holiday. The nearest pub and shop are found in the village of Taddington which is just 1 mile away. For walkers and cyclists, from a Priestcliffe cottage you will have easy access to the Monsal Trail and the Limestone Way.
It is the beautiful scenery which attracts many visitors to these parts, and the traffic-free Monsal Trail is a wonderful way to explore some of it locally. The route follows the former Midland Railway through Monsal Dale and offers incredible views at places like the endearingly named Water-cum-Jolly Dale. The four long tunnels en route add a sense of adventure. Above the Monsal Trail and the River Wye, the steep limestone hillside of Priestcliffe Lees is a haven for wildlife, and one of many nature reserves in the Wye Valley.
Take a walk up to Monsal Head, where the views are amongst the most photographed in Derbyshire. The meandering River Wye, Headstone Viaduct, Fin Cop hill and Hob’s House cave are all points of interest.
Priestcliffe is close to the charming town of Bakewell (6.5 miles), famed for its delicious pudding, but also beautifully scenic and a lovely spot for a day out shopping and tea room hopping. Don’t miss the outdoor market every Monday. Just 6.5 miles in the opposite direction is the elegant spa town of Buxton, bursting with attractive architecture, ornate gardens and a rich arts culture, not to mention a great selection of attractions such as Poole’s Cavern and Go Ape.
Our Priestcliffe holiday cottages provide a comfortable base for exploring the Peak District. Whether you’re planning long walks in the Wye Valley or days out sightseeing, you’ll find the perfect place to relax within our collection of Priestcliffe cottages. From dog-friendly hideaways, great for couples, to large houses for family celebrations, we have self-catering cottages in Priestcliffe to suit every occasion.
