The Isle of Purbeck is a large peninsula on the Dorset coast. At its eastern edge is the gorgeous seaside holiday resort of Swanage. Taking advantage of its secluded location, it gives the illusion that it’s stood at the edge of the world. With sea views out over Bournemouth Bay and the Isle of Wight, you can see the chalk stacks called Old Harry Rocks to the north past the town’s sandy beaches. Swanage has the lion’s share of Purbeck’s restaurants, pubs and cafes. Catch the Swanage Railway to Corfe Castle on a steam train. Our Corfe Castle cottages centre around the ruins of Civil War-era fortress atop of a large hill. Beach lovers will adore Studland Bay and the Nature Reserve. Bird spotters are always rewarded with some sightings of lesser-spotted specimens out there. T. E. Lawrence spent his later years living at Cloud’s Hill in Bovington and there is even a walking trail devoted to his memory. There’s so much to do on the Isle of Purbeck, and it's not even an island anymore since the channel became silted up and reclaimed from the sea.
