Self-catering holiday cottages in Shandwick

Shandwick, Scotland, is a village to the south of the village of Balintore, overlooking the North Sea on the eastern coast of the Scottish Highlands. Along with Balintore and Hilton of Cadboll, Shandwick forms the trio of settlements known as the Seaboard Villages facing onto Moray Firth. An interesting tourist attraction in the area is the Clach a' Charridh or Shandwick Stone, a Class II Pictish stone carving featuring religious and secular imagery, dating back at least a thousand years, and possibly further. Visit Cromarty Firth to see the unusual spectacle of seeing dozens of oil rigs at anchor. They are stored in the firth when they aren’t needed at sea. It’s a great place to take photographs at sunrise. Shandwick and Balintore lie in Glen Isla, the most westerly of the Angus Glens. It is also known for the manmade landmark ‘The Mermaid of the North’, sat on some rocks on the shore – another great photo opportunity. Other visitor attractions are Balintore Castle, which is undergoing a restoration programme.

With so much to see and do, the one certainty is that you’ll need a relaxing base to recharge your batteries. Our holiday cottages in Shandwick are perfectly positioned for making the most of your Easter Ross holiday, and with everything from dog-friendly cottages to large houses for group celebrations, we’re sure you’ll find your ideal home-from-home.
