Self-catering holiday cottages in Strontian

The little village of Strontian is set amongst spectacular scenery on the banks of Loch Sunart in the Western Highlands. The little white houses and glistening waters of the loch make it an attractive place for a holiday, and the village green gives it a welcoming feel. The mouth of the Great Glen as it opens into Loch Linnhe is 8.5 miles away and there is an abundance of glorious scenery to explore in the local vicinity.

Close to the village is the lush ancient woodland of Ariundle Oakwood National Nature Reserve where you can wander along the leafy trails, keeping an eye out for the diverse wildlife which lives here. The area surrounding Loch Sunart is home to creatures ranging from soaring birds of prey to the rarely spotted Scottish Wildcat. In the slender loch itself are seals, otters and a whole host of seabirds, as well as a wealth of marine life beneath the surface. 18.5 miles from Strontian, the Ardnamurchan Natural History Visitor Centre is a great introduction to the flora and fauna found in the area.

There is a history of mining in the hills to the north of the village, and it was here that the element strontium was first discovered. Continue travelling north and you’ll come to Loch Shiel (11 miles) which is a spectacular freshwater loch surrounded by beautiful mountain scenery. Canoeing, boat cruises and fishing are all enjoyed on the loch.

If you’ve been captivated by the thought of a holiday enjoying the unspoilt landscapes of the Western Highlands, our Strontian cottages will provide the perfect base. Choose from holiday cottages in Strontian and the surrounding area which offer waterside views, cosy boltholes for couples and large houses for a group getaway.
