Holidays in Tarn Hows

Tarn Hows is one of the Lake District’s best-loved beauty spots, and a visit is not to be missed while exploring the National Park. Three tarns were joined together in the 19th century to create Tarn Hows, and it has been a hugely popular landmark for decades thanks to its idyllic views across the water to the surrounding hilly landscape and thick woodland.

Now cared for by the National Trust after once being owned by author Beatrix Potter, visitors can enjoy a relaxed and leisurely walk around the edge of the lake. Nearby are the villages of Coniston and Hawkshead, well-known for their connections to John Ruskin and Beatrix Potter respectively, which both make for great day trips, as well as the larger lake of Coniston Water.
