Warkworth in Northumberland is popular with visitors due to its rich heritage and attractive period buildings. The well-preserved medieval Warkworth Castle, the ancient seat of the Percy family, is one of the main draws to the village - now owned by English Heritage, and the village church of St Lawrence with its towering 100-foot spire is also worth visiting if you have a passion for history. And don't miss the Warkworth Hermitage, a 14th chapel hewn from the rock face, hidden away on the south bank of the river - it is only accessible by boat! As well as its intriguing past, Warkworth also has some beautiful scenery in the area. Walking by the River Coquet which encircles the village brings a sense of peace, and with the village’s close proximity to the Northumberland Coast Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, you are never far from spectacular views and a plethora of wildlife.
When you’re feeling peckish, there’s a great selection of artisan shops, restaurants and welcoming inns near our Warkworth cottages. You’ll also find Warkworth Golf Club if you fancy a round during your holiday, or if you’d prefer a traditional bucket and spade day on 5 miles of golden sand, head to Warkworth Beach which overlooks the RSPB reserve of Coquet Island.
