However, this is good news for those in search of a relaxing coastal retreat in Devon – Woody Bay is an unspoilt haven with a rocky beach accessed via a zig-zag path and road down the cliff and through delightful woodland. There’s little in the way of facilities here which is part of the charm, so make sure you pack a picnic, and some swimwear so you can take a dip in the Victorian sea pool.

Woody Bay also gives its name to a station of the Lynton & Barnstaple Railway Company. Hop onboard this charming, narrow-gauge steam train to chug gently on a 2-mile round trip through classic Exmoor scenery.
