Wooler is a small, attractive town in Northumberland, sitting on the edge of the Northumberland National Park. Its fantastic location next to the Cheviot Hills makes it a popular destination for walkers and has earned the title the ‘Gateway to the Cheviots’ due to the beautiful rural landscapes which surround the town in every direction. Sitting in the valley of Glendale, the foothills offer the perfect setting for a variety of exciting outdoor activities, including cycling, horse riding, fishing and rock climbing. To the east is Northumberland’s pristine coastline, an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, where you’ll find iconic landmarks such as Bamburgh Castle, the Holy Island of Lindisfarne and the Farne Islands which are home to all manner of seabirds, puffins, seals and dolphins.
Not far from our Wooler cottages are a wonderful array of attractions to visit, including Chillingham Castle which is rumoured to be one of the most haunted castles in Britain, the Heatherslaw Light Railway, Flodden Battlefield and English Heritage’s Etal Castle. If you fancy donning your walking boots, St Cuthbert’s Way, the long-distance route which links Melrose in the Scottish Borders to Lindisfarne, passes through the town. And when you’re in need of refreshments, there is a selection of welcoming pubs, restaurants and cafes near our holiday cottages in Wooler where you can put your feet up and tuck into some delicious local produce. Stay on the doorstep of the most stunning landscapes when you choose our self-catering accommodation in Wooler.
