Stay in Whitby

The dramatic and beautiful coastal town of Whitby is famed as the inspiration for Bram Stoker’s Dracula and has since inspired a wealth of artists and writers who visit these shores.

Climb the 199 steps up to the crumbling ruins of ancient Whitby Abbey, built in the 7th century, which remains an iconic Whitby landmark today. Visit the Captain Cook Memorial Museum, hop on the Esk Valley Railway for a trip up the coast, or for a real fright, head to the Dracula Experience.

At low tide, you can even walk along the beach to the peaceful neighbouring seaside village of Robin Hood’s Bay.

Scarborough cottages

Just down the coast, south of Whitby, lies popular family-friendly Scarborough town. If you’re planning classic beach days, this is the place for it with North Bay promenade and three sandy beaches to choose from.

Located between its own fantastic stretch of sandy beach and Flamborough Head Heritage Coast, Bridlington is a wonderful mix of fun attractions and wildlife-rich coastline.

Stop by Sewerby Hall, The Bayle Museum, or Bridlington Priory for a little history, enjoy family days building sandcastles on the beach, and when you’re ready to explore the rugged coast further, head over to RSPB Bempton Cliffs where you can spot puffins during the breeding season.
