For those who want a truly unique experience, why not take the two-hour boat trip out to the spectacular island of Lundy, a quiet haven for wildlife including seals and puffins, where visitors can enjoy secluded coastal walks, explore the numerous historic buildings and ruins, and enjoy a pint in the island’s cosy inn. The two-mile long sandy beach at Westward Ho! is a must-do for beach lovers, whilst others may like to visit the traditional fishing village of Appledore or walk part of the South West Coast Path.

Meanwhile, a separate utility store houses a freezer and tumble dryer. The property’s one bedroom accessed from some steps from the lounge is an attractive, relaxing king-size room, next to which is the cottage’s bathroom, offering a shower over bath and WC.

Outside, there is a wonderful garden offering one acre of grounds which are shared with the sister property, and offers a BBQ and seating area – a lovely space from which to enjoy the property’s tranquil surroundings. The owners can offer stabling by prior arrangement for guests who wish to bring their own horses, which will fit right in with the owners’ cats, ducks, chickens, and neighbouring sheep. A lovely cottage in all aspects. It was the perfect place to have some relaxing down-time before the rush of Christmas was upon us. We would definitely recommend it.

The cottage is in a good position for exploring the North Devon area but has many bad points. The main problem is that the king-size bed is too wide for the bedroom. Highly recommend the Shippen, whatever your needs you will find it here. The beaches are within a few minutes drive all have areas for dogs to run and splash around. The pubs are mostly dog friendly and the locals are very friendly. We are definitely going back.
