This beautiful, unique watchtower offers fabulous views and provides a true hideaway for those looking to spend quality time together on a romantic break close to the North Devon coast.

This charming watchtower is set high on a hill above the River Taw, less than a mile from the market town of Barnstaple and its array of pubs, shops, restaurants, cinema and a theatre. The long sandy beaches of Westward Ho! Saunton and Croyde are within easy reach too and are popular surfing spots if you enjoy watersports. To make your break extra special you could take the iconic day trip across to Lundy Island from nearby Bideford or enjoy long evening walks through the Braunton or Northam Burrows, where you’ll be sure to witness romantic sunsets when the weather allows.

Step through the front door of the property and into the open-plan accommodation, which due to its unique nature offers a great setting for guests who wish not to cook during their break. The downstairs open-plan kitchen/diner offers a microwave oven, separate sink for washing cutlery and a small fridge – there is no oven but fantastic pubs serving delicious food surround the property. Stairs take you to the first floor where a beautifully decorated open-plan lounge, double bed, woodburner effect fire, TV/ DVD awaits. It’s here that you can truly appreciate the beautiful views across the river too.

Outside there is a vast enclosed, shared lawn garden with seating and BBQ for you to enjoy. On sunny evenings you can relax outdoors and watch the sun set over the river. There is parking for two cars.

A wonderful location and gorgeous, unique property and perfect for a romantic getaway. Mr Patel was very welcoming and friendly and pointed in the direction of some nice walks and places to visit.

The property is quirky and interesting however not warm and cosy for the chilly autumn evenings. Also we found it unsuitable for walking anywhere local unless you drive somewhere first, nice view of estuary but you cannot get anywhere near it on foot. Very built up nearby.

The place and the owner was amazing. Very relaxing and out the way with nothing but lovely views.

Our short break was amazing. The location is superb and the tower is cosy and nice. The owner has been very helpful and very nice. He bought a new small electric oven the day before we arrived and that was very helpful as we we could buy some food and have a nice dinner.

We had a lovely time at the Watch Tower, it is a beautiful location in grassy grounds. It's easy to travel to other places from there due to it's central location. The upstairs is very comfortable, but not so much downstairs. We were able to sit outside for breakfasts and a lot of our meals with the weather being so good mid Aug. We would love to vRead moreisit again but we have a pug now and it's not pet friendly and we want to take our pug with us in future. Owner was lovely and friendly. Hide
